Newthorpe is a village in Nottinghamshire, standing at the eastern edge of and contiguous with the town of Eastwood, north-west of Nottingham and close to the Derbyshire border.
In 1952, a local lad of just 15 years, John Bamford, became the youngest recipient of the George Cross for bravery during a house fire in Newthorpe.[1]
