Sandy Bay is a bay on the south coast of the island of St Helena. It also gives its name to the district in which the bay lies.
The bay itself is small and remote. It was once frequented though: there is a ruined lime kiln by the bay, and an old fortification. The wider bight in the coast partakes of the name too though, and that name appears in an islet named Sandy Bay Island, and to the east a low hill reaching the sea known as Sandy Bay Barn. Sandy Bay also gives its name to the Sandy Bay Valley that leads down to the bay itself.
District
Sandy Bay District is a broad district taking in much of the south of the island of the island and extending inland to the mountains, including Diana's Peak. In 2008 the district had a population of 205.
The northern, inland part of the district is an area of dispersed settlement, of which the main village is Bamboo Hedge.
