Cranbrook is a village which has become merely a district of Ilford in Essex.
Once a separate place, Cranbrook has been entirely absorbed into the urban sprawl of Ilford, and the metropolitan conurbation as a whole. Today, Cranbrook is identified as the area north of Ilford railway station and south of Redbridge tube station.
The village's name is from that of a tributary of the River Roding which flows through here; the Cran Brook, and the earliest surviving record of that name is in 1233 as Cranebroc.[1]
