Moresby is a small village in southern Cumberland; a place with a population of 1,997 at the 2011 Census.
Moresby sits on Cumberland's west coast. The name of the village is thought to come from a family who settled in the area. Nearby, in Lowca, is Moresby Hall, a Grade I listed building.
Name
The nam 'Moresby' means 'Maurice's village' after St Maurice, a saint popular in Europe.[1]
