Little Munden
Diocese of St Albans
Parish church: All Saints
Details

Little Munden is a parish in Hertfordshire, in the Diocese of St Albans. There is no village of Little Munden, but a series of hamlets in the countryside. Great Munden is a village and the neighbouring parish.

All Saints' Church stands outside any of the hamlets of Little Munden, at TL334219, on the junction of lanes to the north of Dane End and south of Green End, close to Lordship's Farm, looking out over the two hamlets and at the fields, hills and woods that surround it.

The church serves the village and hamlets and isolated homes around it. These include:

Archaeological evidence indicates that settlement here probably dates back to 2000 BC.

The church is the oldest building in this ancient community, parts of it dating from the 11th century. There may have been an earlier wooden chapel on the site. The monuments in and around the building remind us of the many generations who have worked and worshipped here, in direct contact with the beauty of its natural setting.

In the 14th and 15th centuries the distinctive Thornbury Tombs were built to commemorate one of the more affluent local families.

Since 2006 All Saints' has been part of the benefice of Standon and The Mundens with Sacombe
