Forglen
Forglen is a parish in eastern Banffshire, a mile north-west of Turriff, Aberdeenshire. The B9025 road from Turiff to Aberchirder passes through the centre of the parish. The surrounding parishes are Alvah to the north; Turiff to the east; and Marnoch to the west. The eastern and southern boundaries of the parish with Turriff also form the county border. In 2011 the population was 293.
This place is called also Teunan, from St Eunon, to whom a chapel, of which there are still some vestiges remaining, is said to have been dedicated. The ruins of the church lie on an ancient site on the north bank of the River Deveron which forms the southern and eastern boundary of the parish as well as the county border with Aberdeenshire. A number of churches are known to have existed here, all of which appear to have been dedicated to St Eunan. The church lies within a large rectangular graveyard, on flat, low ground, surrounded by agricultural fields. The large former manse is located a short distance to the north. The church was connected to the Abbey of Arbroath, as shown by a charter of 1204, which highlights the age of the site. The roofless ruin of the church today is situated within a graveyard which is still in use.
