Rogart is a village and parish in eastern Sutherland. The name is from the Gaelic ‘’Raoghard’’ meaning "great enclosed field").[1] It was originally a scattered crofting village, until the opening of the Rogart railway station at Pittentrail a mile and a half to the south-east. A newer industrial village grew after the arrival of the railway in 1886, with the older village remaining.[2]
The parish is bounded on the east by parts of the parishes of Dornoch and Golspie, on the south by parts of the parishes of Dornoch and Criech, on the west by the parish of Lairg and on the north by parts of the parishes of Clyne and Farr.
The village of Golspie lies nine miles east of Rogart.
