Pett Bottom is a small village in Kent, about five miles south of Canterbury. The nearest village of any size is Lower Hardres.

There is one pub / restaurant in Pett Bottom, The Duck Inn, one of the county’s most picturesque inns and which can trace its history to 1623 in the reign of King James I. Its name comes from the directive above its low doorway, which advised people to "duck".

Ian Fleming, the author of the James Bond books, visited Pett Bottom and was reportedly amused by its name. In the novel You Only Live Twice, the obituary of James Bond says that he lived here at Pett Bottom with his aunt after his parents died.[1]
