Offerton is a tiny village in the north of County Durham, about four miles west-south-west of Sunderland city centre.
The village stands alone, amidst farmland south of the tidal reach of the River Wear, but its eastern edge is grazed by the tearing lanes of the A19, immediately beyond which is the dense townscape of Sunderland and the Wearside towns, while a mile to the west across the Wear is Washington New Town.
